Cat Person is becoming a psychological thriller

Cat person, a short story written by Kristen Roupenian, set the world on fire when it was published in the New Yorker back in 2017.

Painfully relatable to many women at the time, it told the story of a young woman named Margot, who – after a series of dynamic texts between her and a man named Robert – decides to have sex with him to avoid an uncomfortable situation.

“His disgust turned into self-loathing and a humiliation that was kind of a perverse cousin of excitement,” reads a memorable line from the viral story.

The essay – which has been described by many on Twitter as “bizarre, goofy, relatable and horrific” – became the magazine’s most downloaded fiction of the year. And, even now, the mere act of saying the words “Cat Person” triggers a deluge of feelings in those who read it and were moved by it at the time.

Unsurprisingly, then, it was confirmed that Cat person finally gets a star-studded film adaptation. Here’s what you need to know.

What is the plot of Cat person?

Just like the original Cat person essay, the film will explore the “hellish landscape” of modern romance by exposing the power dynamics between Margot, a 20-year-old student, and Robert, 34.

It has been described as a “psychological thriller,” so we imagine it will draw heavily on the news’s more disturbing vibes throughout its duration.

What do people say about Cat person?

The film, which will be directed by none other than Susanna Fogel (her from The Savages and The stewardess glory), tells Variety: “Using Kristen’s excruciatingly well-watched short story about dating horrors as a starting point for a real genre film, Cat person explore the hellish landscape of modern romance and the idea that we’ve all been the villain in someone else’s story and the victim in others.

Color intrigued us.

When Cat person go out to cinemas?

We have a little while to wait, unfortunately; the film has yet to be made and will begin worldwide sales at the Cannes virtual market this week.

We do feel, however, that it will be quickly captured and presented on our screens sometime in 2023.
