India vs West Indies: Men in Blue looking to land ODI series after surviving edge of siege thriller

After a thriller on the edge of the siege in the first ODI, India and West Indies face off again on Sunday in the second game of the three-game series.

India will be very confident as they look to continue their winning streak and wrap up the series in Game 2 itself. West Indies, however, are hoping to bounce back and tie the series after losing the opener by just three points and having a “bittersweet” experience in the words of captain Nicholas Pooran.

The Men in Maroon, however, will be happier with how they struck in the final game after a string of poor performances in their previous tournaments. Pooran also admitted they can do well if they beat 50 overs.

The hosts were also decent with the ball. They came back strong after 35th in the early innings when India were cruising and looked to post a total of over 350 with ease. The visitors were only allowed 83 runs in the last 15 overs despite having eight wickets in hand.

India, despite the win, will be looking to finish the sets better with players like Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel in the middle order. They failed to capitalize on a well-established platform in Game 1 and would like to correct that in the upcoming series, with the limited opportunities they have.

They weren’t clinical with the ball but managed to snatch victory from the hands of the Caribbean. Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shardul Thakur will look to continue their form. Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill will also be looking to develop further and cement their long-term place amid fierce competition once the ODI regulars return.

Windies was boosted by the return of Jason Holder, but being infected with Covid-19 kept him out of the show. It will be interesting to see if they are ready to make any changes to the game XI.

India are also expected to go with the same team unless they decide to give Arshdeep Singh or Avesh Khan a chance.

Another high-scoring game is scheduled at the same venue where the first ODI was played.
