Jodie Foster-Led True Detective Season 4 Gets Series Order From HBO
HBO has officially given a series order to Issa López and Barry Jenkins’ upcoming fourth installment of the acclaimed crime drama True Detective: Land of Night, which will be directed by Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster. Production is expected to take place in Iceland.
Additionally, it was also announced that boxer Kali Reis has been tapped to star alongside Foster for the lead role of Detective Evangeline Navarro. Reis made her acting debut last year with the thriller Just catch it. The upcoming HBO series marks his very first TV project.
“We are extremely excited to return to the real detective franchise and to work with the multi-talented Issa López, whose singular vision for her land of night The installment will be beautifully done with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the lead roles,” Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president of programming, said in a statement.

True Detective: Land of Night is written by Issa López and Alan Page Arriaga, with Lopez set to direct several episodes. It will be produced by Foster along with Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak through their Pastel banner.
“When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station disappear without a trace,” reads the synopsis. “To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry within and dig into the haunting truths that lie buried beneath the eternal ice.”

Other executive producers include Mari Jo Winkler, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, as well as Cary Joji Fukunaga and series creator Nic Pizzolatto, who will not be involved in the creative process for the fourth installment.
