Fox‘s Prodigal son has been canceled after two seasons. On Fox’s decision not to renew Prodigal son for a third season:

Sophomore Prodigal Son was a real bubble show. It was the last Fox drama to get a renewal last year, which only happened after the debut, and it played out again for the serial killer show. It was creatively enjoyed on the network, and there was a willingness to try and find a way to bring the series back, with various storylines explored.


It seems these scenarios all led to an untenable place.

Prodigal sonPlot Synopsis: “The series centers on Malcolm Bright, whose father, Martin Whitly, is the infamous serial killer known as ‘The Surgeon’. As a child, Malcolm allowed the police to arrest his father and has not seen his father for ten years after joining Quantico. A disgraced former FBI profiler who now works for the NYPD, Malcolm is forced to confront his father after a copycat serial killer uses Whitly’s murder methods. He finds himself brought back to constant contact with his father as he must both use Whitly’s ideas to help the police solve particularly gruesome crimes and fight his own inner demons.
