The Suns’ three remaining ESPN games won’t be hidden from local markets

Breathe, Suns fans.

Phoenix’s final three regular season games on ESPN will not be hidden from local markets after two games on the network in the past two weeks.

The Suns (53-13) play the Los Angeles Lakers at home on Sunday, March 30 at Golden State and April 6 at the Los Angeles Clippers on ESPN.

The March 2 game against Portland and Wednesday’s game at Miami were both halted because ESPN has two games assigned to the Suns that it could ban.

These masked games were available to watch on Bally Sports Arizona, as the national networks have agreements with RSNs or regional sports networks.

Cox Communications provides Bally Sports Arizona.

There is a cap on the number of national television appearances that varies by national network and NBA team. These are pre-negotiated agreements that the NBA establishes with national networks and RSNs.

ESPN declined to reveal its cap number for Suns games, but the Suns entered the 2021-22 season with 11 games televised on ESPN, nine on TNT and three on ABC.

ESPN then faltered in two Suns games – Dec. 3 at Golden State and Wednesday at Miami. ESPN exceeded the appearance cap for its Suns games, but had the option to choose which two games it wanted to exclude.

The NBA announced on December 2 the decision to ask ESPN to show the Suns-Warriors game instead of the Clippers-Lakers game.

Then the same day ESPN televised Phoenix’s 115-114 thriller on March 4 over New York on Cam Johnson’s 31-footer at the buzzer, the NBA announced the decision to show the Suns-Heat game on March 9. instead of the Hawks-Bucks game in Milwaukee.

The Suns still have six games scheduled on NBATV. They entered the season with 11 scheduled for NBATV.

March 15 – in New Orleans.

March 18 – against Chicago.

March 24 – in Denver.

April 1 – in Memphis.

April 5 – against LA Lakers.

April 8 – in Utah.
